Details About the Competition
MAIMS 5th National Mock Trial Competition, 2026, aims to provide a dynamic platform for law students across India to showcase and strengthen their advocacy, research, and courtroom skills in a professional and intellectually stimulating environment.
The 5th edition of the competition revolves around the theme of “Mental Health, Superstition and Criminal Liability”, highlighting the intersection of psychological vulnerability, blind faith, and legal responsibility. In a society where grief, emotional distress, and misinformation often make individuals susceptible to manipulative spiritual practices, the competition seeks to encourage meaningful dialogue on the legal, ethical, and social dimensions surrounding mental health and criminal accountability.
Designed to replicate real courtroom proceedings, the Competition involves framing of arguments, examination-in-chief, cross-examination, and re-examination of witnesses, thereby providing participants with practical exposure to trial advocacy and litigation strategy. The Competition aims to bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and practical courtroom experience by fostering critical thinking, legal research, professionalism, and effective advocacy skills.
Following the themes of the previous editions, namely the POCSO Act, Male Victimisation, Kidnapping of a Child by their Own Parent, and The Ethics of Online Comedy Content, the Competition continues its tradition of engaging participants with evolving and socially relevant legal issues.
